Vertical Gallery is proud to present our first exhibition of 2015, Cities, Towns, and Color Fields, a solo exhibition by Chicago based artist Nate Otto, featuring over 30 new pieces on canvas and wood.
An imagist as well as an expressionist, Nate Otto’s paintings represent a wrestling match among a deep vocabulary of individualistic styles. Nate is interested in reflecting the physical modern existence through work strongly influenced by illustration, color field painting, street art, advertising, graphic design, and geometric abstraction. This exhibition includes large scale paintings rendered in acrylic, spray paint, and acrylic ink, and are an extension and evolution of Nate’s recent illustrative works on small panels. The process often includes many layers of paint that are reflective of the ongoing renewal and revision of landscapes. Recently Nate has shown his work in galleries from New York to Los Angeles, and this is his first solo exhibition of full scale paintings. In addition to his fine art work, Nate also contributes heavily as an illustrator and creative for an innovative Chicago based tech company, and he has been known to write stories and make music.
February 7 - 28, 2015. Opening reception with the artist is Sat. Feb. 7, 6-10pm.
