About this set:
Named for the RER Train that nearly killed him while he was tagging in the Paris Metro, Zevs is one of the most respected street artists in France. He gained early attention for his shadow drawings around Paris in the 1990s, but developed his trademark liquidation technique during the past decade. With this technique, he depicts the logos of mega-brands like Coca-Cola, Louis Vuitton, and Apple with dripping lines that give the appearance that they are bleeding or melting. The present lot is for the complete Liquidated London set of 14 screenprints. The work addresses the pervasive corporate involvement for which the 2012 Summer Olympics were widely criticized, targeting brands like Visa, Adidas, and McDonald's, as well as the Games themselves. In deconstructing these ubiquitous commercial symbols, Zevs disrupts the companies' visual coherence, thereby undermining their dominance and power.
Along with the fourteen screenprints, the box set includes the artist's statement and a signed and numbered colophon page. Each print is also signed and numbered. The works are housed in a clothbound, screenprinted box measuring 20.67 x 14.96 x 1.1 inches (52.5 x 38 x 2.8 cm.). The individual prints' measurements are below:
