        Jennifer Cronin

Jennifer Cronin makes the mundane magical. The Chicago-based painter captures the intrinsic otherness of everyday life, foregrounding the phenomena we so often take for granted.

Jen, a native of Oak Lawn, Ill., earned her BFA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, spending a semester abroad studying painting at London’s Camberwell College of Art. In the years following her debut solo exhibit, 2010’s ‘the peculiar manifestation of paint in my life,’ Jen’s work addressed subjects ranging from psychology to income inequality to climate change; during the COVID-19 pandemic, she rethought her approach, embracing a more optimistic mindset. “I brought together all of the aspects of my practice that I enjoy most, like landscapes and playing around with paint,” Jen explains. “I think a lot of people can relate to landscapes, because they’re kind of general. A landscape can represent a lot of different places. It's not something too specific.”

Jen made her Vertical Gallery debut as part of our 2022 group show ‘Atomic Number 13 Part 2.’ A new collection of work will be available for AQUA Art Miami in December 2025. Contact us at sales@verticalgallery.com to be added to the collector's preview.
