Arne Spangereid

Norwegian painter Arne Spangereid’s lush, impressionistic interior scenes are a study in contrasts, seamlessly blending old-master gravitas with postmodern playfulness.

Arne honed his craft under the tutelage of Norwegian portrait painter Truls Dahl, American oil painter Nelson Shanks and Maltese artist and museum curator Ray Spiteri — experiences he credits for his work’s unique balance between realism and abstraction. Arne focused on painting cityscapes in the years prior to the 2022 launch of his ‘Disruption’ series, which incorporates anachronistic elements like robots and rubber toys into otherwise conventional settings. He made his Vertical Gallery debut in 2023 during our 11-year anniversary group show, and returned 12 months later for our 12-year anniversary festivities.
