Angel Onofre

Chicago artist, animator and designer Angel Onofre channels influences spanning from anime to skateboard culture to heavy metal to create work that juxtaposes cuddly characters opposite chilling thematic concerns.

Angel earned his B.A. in animation from Columbia College Chicago before joining video game development and design shop Chewy Software LLC, where he worked on projects for multimedia brands like Disney, Nickelodeon, Hasbro and Fisher-Price. Angel also attracted attention for his illustration efforts, exhibiting at comic book and pop culture conventions across the Midwest including local staples C2E2 and Wizard World Chicago. He first appeared at Vertical Gallery as part of the 2022 group exhibition #INK2, returning the following spring for our 10-year anniversary show before closing out 2023 with the solo showcase ‘Ghosts All Around.’
