ADi
ADi’s signature ‘False Idols’ series explores the convergence of faith and fandom, reimagining the tropes and traditions of religious iconography in the context of contemporary society's fixation with popular culture, brand recognition and nostalgia.
Adrian ‘ADi’ Brierley came of age via Melbourne’s thriving graffiti community. After taking up residence at the city’s Blender Studios art complex, he won acclaim for ‘Symbiosis,’ a series of oil paintings celebrating Australia’s native mammals. In March 2018, Ben Frost and GT Sewell’s Versus Studios presented ADi’s first collection of ‘False Idols’ — totemic, hyper-stylized wooden assemblages riffing on multimedia properties from Sesame Street to South Park. ADi launched a series of False Idols vinyl art toys prior to contributing more than a dozen handcrafted sculptures to Vertical Gallery’s 2024 Holiday Group Show. A second collection of original False Idols highlighted our all-star group show at Miami’s AQUA Art Fair 2024.
